About the Kiewa
Both branches of the Kiewa start high on the Bogong High Plains, below Mount Bogong and Falls Creek. They run down off the plateau and join near Mount Beauty to form the Kiewa River.
From there the river runs north past Tawonga and down the Kiewa Valley through dairy country, before joining the Murray east of Wodonga. The upper reaches are fast, clear mountain water. Lower in the valley the river widens into broader runs and pools.
The Kiewa Valley sits beside some of the highest country in Victoria, and the views on a clear day are part of the trip.
Where we fish on the Kiewa
East and West Kiewa
Fast, clear mountain water around Mount Beauty and the upper valley.
Kiewa Valley
Broader runs and pools past Tawonga and down the valley towards the Murray.
John picks the stretch on the day, based on the season, the flows and what you want to get out of the trip.
A guided day on the Kiewa
The upper Kiewa suits anglers who like quick mountain water and short, accurate casts. The lower valley gives more room for longer drifts and Euro nymphing.
Every trip is a half or full day with John beside you on the water the whole time. Waders, boots, rods, reels and flies are all supplied, and catering is included. If your casting needs work before you hit the river, a casting lesson in Benalla is a good place to start.
