Guided fly fishing trips from Wangaratta.

The Ovens and the King meet at Wangaratta, so there is plenty of trout water up the valleys from town. Most of it is less than an hour away.

A day trip from Wangaratta

Living in Wangaratta puts you closer to more of these rivers than almost anywhere else. A half day on the King or the Ovens fits around a normal day, with no early start and no long drive home.

With four rivers inside an hour, you can also come back through the season and fish somewhere different each time. John can plan a mix of small streams and bigger water so you learn something new on each trip.

Making a weekend of it

There's no need to stay away for most of these rivers. If you want to fish the Kiewa or the upper Howqua, a night in Mount Beauty or Mansfield gives you a full day on the water.

What's included

Every trip is a half or full day with John beside you on the water the whole time. Waders, boots, rods, reels and flies are all supplied, so there's nothing to pack but yourself. Catering is included, and dietary requirements are catered for.

Casting lessons in Benalla

Benalla is about 35 minutes down the Hume. A three hour casting lesson there is an easy way to sort out your cast before your first trip, or to fix bad habits if you've been fishing for years. More about casting lessons.

Plan your trip from Wangaratta.

Tell John where you're coming from, which days suit and what you'd like to get out of the trip. He'll suggest the river and plan the day around it.
