Guided fly fishing trips from Rutherglen.

Rutherglen is out on the Murray plains, but the trout rivers are closer than they look. The lower Kiewa is under an hour away and the Ovens is about an hour.

A day trip from Rutherglen

From Rutherglen or Corowa, a full day on the Kiewa or the Ovens is an easy day trip. Leave after breakfast and you'll be on the water by mid morning.

The King Valley is about an hour and a quarter away. It's a different kind of river, with runs and pools between gravel bars below Lake William Hovell.

Making a weekend of it

For the upper rivers around Bright and Mount Beauty, stay a night. You'll get a full day on smaller mountain water without the long drive home.

What's included

Every trip is a half or full day with John beside you on the water the whole time. Waders, boots, rods, reels and flies are all supplied, so there's nothing to pack but yourself. Catering is included, and dietary requirements are catered for.

Casting lessons in Benalla

Benalla is about an hour away via Wangaratta and the Hume. A three hour casting lesson there is a good start for a new angler. More about casting lessons.

Plan your trip from Rutherglen.

Tell John where you're coming from, which days suit and what you'd like to get out of the trip. He'll suggest the river and plan the day around it.
