From Bendigo, the closest of John's rivers are a little over two hours away. The lower Goulburn and the Delatite make a long but doable day trip, and a weekend opens up the alpine rivers.
Via Benalla and Wangaratta to Myrtleford and Bright.
Drive times are a rough guide and depend on the stretch John picks for the day.
A day trip from Bendigo
A day trip from Bendigo means an early start. The lower Goulburn is the closest option, and the long runs below the Eildon dam are worth the drive if you want to learn Euro nymphing or fish bigger water.
If you only have one day, a full day is better value than a half day once the drive is counted. Lunch, snacks and drinks are included, so you can head straight home after fishing.
Making a weekend of it
A weekend works best for most anglers coming from Bendigo. Stay in Mansfield and fish the Delatite or Howqua, or head further to Bright for the Ovens and Buckland. You can book a day on each of two rivers.
What's included
Every trip is a half or full day with John beside you on the water the whole time. Waders, boots, rods, reels and flies are all supplied, so there's nothing to pack but yourself. Catering is included, and dietary requirements are catered for.
Casting lessons in Benalla
Benalla is about three hours from Bendigo. If you're making the trip, a casting lesson the afternoon before your guided day is a good way to start. More about casting lessons.
Plan your trip from Bendigo.
Tell John where you're coming from, which days suit and what you'd like to get out of the trip. He'll suggest the river and plan the day around it.
