Up the Ovens Valley to Porepunkah, then into the Buckland Valley.
Drive times are a rough guide and depend on the stretch John picks for the day.
Coming from Winton, Baddaginnie, Goorambat, Molyullah, Swanpool, Tatong or Devenish? The same rivers are the closest for you too, and the drive is about the same.
A day trip from Benalla
From Benalla every one of these rivers is a day trip. A half day on the King or the Delatite still leaves the afternoon free, and a full day in the alpine valleys means a normal start and home for dinner.
Because everything is close, you can try a few rivers through the season. John can start you on easier water and move to the smaller mountain streams as your casting improves.
Making a weekend of it
You won't need to stay away for most trips. For a full day on the upper Kiewa or the Howqua, a night in Mount Beauty or Mansfield saves an early start.
What's included
Every trip is a half or full day with John beside you on the water the whole time. Waders, boots, rods, reels and flies are all supplied, so there's nothing to pack but yourself. Catering is included, and dietary requirements are catered for.
Casting lessons in Benalla
Casting lessons are held here in Benalla, so a three hour lesson fits easily around work. More about casting lessons.
Plan your trip from Benalla.
Tell John where you're coming from, which days suit and what you'd like to get out of the trip. He'll suggest the river and plan the day around it.
