Up the Hume to Wangaratta, then the Great Alpine Road to Myrtleford.
Drive times are a rough guide and depend on the stretch John picks for the day.
Coming from Warrenbayne? The same rivers are the closest for you too, and the drive is about the same.
A day trip from Violet Town
From Violet Town you can reach both ends of John's patch. The King and the Delatite are the same distance away, so you can pick on the conditions and the kind of water you want to fish.
A full day is the usual choice. You'll be on the water by mid morning and home in the early evening.
Making a weekend of it
For the Buffalo, the Buckland or the rivers around Bright, a night in the Ovens Valley saves a long day of driving.
What's included
Every trip is a half or full day with John beside you on the water the whole time. Waders, boots, rods, reels and flies are all supplied, so there's nothing to pack but yourself. Catering is included, and dietary requirements are catered for.
Casting lessons in Benalla
Benalla is about 25 minutes up the Hume, so a three hour casting lesson fits easily around a normal day. More about casting lessons.
Plan your trip from Violet Town.
Tell John where you're coming from, which days suit and what you'd like to get out of the trip. He'll suggest the river and plan the day around it.
