Eildon sits right on the Goulburn. Water released from the bottom of the dam keeps the river below it cold, and that trout water starts at the edge of town.
Via Mansfield and out to Sheepyard Flat. Best as part of a weekend.
Drive times are a rough guide and depend on the stretch John picks for the day.
Coming from Thornton or Jamieson? The same rivers are the closest for you too, and the drive is about the same.
A day trip from Eildon
From Eildon there's hardly any drive. You can meet John at the river, fish a half or full day, and be home within minutes of finishing.
The Goulburn is a big river, and its flow changes with releases from the dam. John checks the flows before the day and picks the stretch to suit.
Making a weekend of it
If you're up for the weekend, add a day on the Delatite near Mansfield. It's a small freestone stream, so it fishes very differently from the Goulburn.
What's included
Every trip is a half or full day with John beside you on the water the whole time. Waders, boots, rods, reels and flies are all supplied, so there's nothing to pack but yourself. Catering is included, and dietary requirements are catered for.
Casting lessons in Benalla
Casting lessons are held in Benalla, about an hour and three quarters away via Mansfield. More about casting lessons.
Plan your trip from Eildon.
Tell John where you're coming from, which days suit and what you'd like to get out of the trip. He'll suggest the river and plan the day around it.
